A mix between an adventure game and an old school Snake game. Explore the inner world of an old corrupted computer, navigate through softwares, get bigger and longer, find secrets and save the computer. You can do it snek!

After the release of Rainy Day, I started working on a top down Roguelike in the same style as The Binding of Isaac. I couldn’t figure the most interesting part of this prototype was a “snake attack” where the player could dash like a snake to kill enemies. I decided to change the game and revolve the gameplay around it.

In 2022 I released STRG.SNEK, the first version of the game. I turned the basic gameplay of a Snake game into a metroidvania, where the player must get longer in order to open doors and discover new areas. The game was one big map with many rooms, and several side levels called “secrets”, themed around fake softwares the player could explore. It was all made in a custom ASCII engine in Javascript. It got a lot of traction, was published on Armor Games and Cool Math Games.

August 2024, I released SNAKEBYTE, the sequel to STRG.SNEK. It was inspired by the feedback I received about the first game, saying they enjoyed the side levels a lot. I decided to structure my game in levels each corresponding to a software: BBS, text editor, paint, etc… Each level is connected by a hub, with an intro level and a final level that can be unlocked when you are long enough.

You have access to every level at the beginning of the game, and you don’t have to collect every collectible to reach the end. It’s up to every player to explore as much as they want, and if they are hooked, to find every secret and the final secret level.
